From curiosity to everyday practice — how Cimcorp brought AI into software work
Cimcorp’s strategy connects curiosity, adaptability, and smarter ways of working. AI as a companion in software development had come up in conversations, but in practice the situation varied widely. One department had already experimented with AI tools, while another hadn’t really got started. Experiences and expectations differed, which is exactly why a shared starting point was needed.
Two departments, two tailored training programmes
Evitec’s trainers Antti Laurila and Olli Uronen built two separate AI training programmes for Cimcorp: a one-day session for people working in continuous services and maintenance, and a two-day programme for product development teams. Both were held on site in Ulvila in late 2025.
Before the training, the team leads were interviewed and the starting point was mapped out. What tools were already in use? What expectations and uncertainties did people have? The content was shaped around the answers to fit Cimcorp.
“We tailored the training closely to the client’s needs. We built the content around the tools they already had in use,” says Antti, who works as a project manager and IT consultant at Evitec.
For the trainers, Antti and Olli, the guiding thread came from a poem by Aaro Hellaakoski: “Those who walk the path are prisoners of the path. Only the untrodden snow is free.” It captures well the mindset Evitec brings to client work. Curiosity and a willingness to learn new things — together with the client — are how we work.
“If you never try something new, you keep skiing the same track. But if you step off the familiar path, you might find something new,” Olli sums up.
From doubt to experimentation
Evitec’s one-day training was the first real encounter with AI tools for many participants.
“The training was a much-needed opening into using AI to support software work. In the hands-on sessions, every participant installed the tools and started getting familiar with them,” says Katri Tuominen, project manager and team lead at Cimcorp.
At first, the attitude was healthily critical: AI was challenged and its answers questioned. As prompting was practised together, curiosity started to grow.
The two-day training for product development went deeper still: practical examples of guiding AI, building context, and working with coding tools. The basics of security and governance were also covered. In the workshop sessions, participants got to try out the tools themselves and think about how to apply what they’d learned in their own work.
“There were many small pieces that showed things from different angles. Even if you’d been following AI closely, the training took understanding further through its practical approach,” says Olli, Evitec’s data and AI consultant.
AI stayed in everyday work
The real value of the training shows in what happens afterwards. At Cimcorp, the change has been concrete.
In the on-call team, for example, customer reports on incidents are now put together with the help of AI, when previously they were done entirely by hand. Troubleshooting code has become faster now that you can spar with an AI tool. The tools introduced in the training have stayed in permanent use.
“We took the first steps together, and then we really started practising,” Katri describes.
The goal at Cimcorp now is for everyone to be able to use AI in their everyday work, supported by shared guardrails. Tips are shared together so that learning spreads across teams.
According to Katri, this kind of training works at any stage of an AI journey: right at the beginning to explore possibilities and build skills, as a kick-off when the direction is clear, or for more advanced use when the basics are already in place. For Cimcorp, it opened a door — and behind that door there has been more than anyone knew to expect.
